On July 3, 1943, Guy boarded a westbound train from Abilene with San Diego as the destination. It was evident that the West Coast would be the last stateside stop before duty in the South Pacific and, of course, the news was filled with the perils of what was happening there. Guy would have a several hour stopover in El Paso where he would spend some time with Aunt Capitola, Uncle S.G., Aunt Cecelia, and Uncle Victor.
There's no mistaking the mood of this occasion.
